Arne Slot has downplayed concerns about Trent Alexander-Arnold's Liverpool displays.
The England international endured a difficult outing during last weekend's 2-2 draw with Manchester United which came amid uncertainty over his long-term future.
Real Madrid have emerged as potential suitors for Alexander-Arnold and saw a tentative enquiry rebuffed by the Anfield hierarchy heading into the New Year.
But Slot does not believe the homegrown right-back's performance against the Red Devils is a cause for alarm despite admitting undertaking a debrief after the game.
"We were all disappointed by the way we played and the result - not just Trent," said Slot.
"He didn't play his best game but it's not the first time in his life. He's played so many games well for this club, like some others.
"They know if you play 50-60 games, once in a while you don't have your best performance."
He added: "There were things I had to show [him] which he has to improve - that's what you do after every game.
"I didn't just do that with Trent. Look at second goal we conceded and Macca (Alexis Mac Allister) could have defended the cut-back better."
Liverpool take on Tottenham in the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final on Wednesday.
