Liverpool’s transfer rumour mill rarely sleeps, and this week it’s been loudly echoing one name – Jeremie Frimpong. Reports surfaced earlier in the week suggesting that face-to-face talks had taken place between the player’s representatives and Liverpool officials. Momentum, it seems, is building.
Frimpong, a key cog in Bayer Leverkusen’s title-winning machine under Xabi Alonso, has long been admired for his blistering pace, intelligent movement, and attacking threat from wing-back. He appears a natural fit for the kind of evolution Arne Slot is expected to orchestrate at Anfield. Yet for now, the Liverpool boss remains publicly reserved.
Speaking ahead of his side’s Premier League clash against Brighton, Arne Slot was asked directly about the club’s reported interest in Frimpong. His response was measured and intentionally vague.

“A boring answer and for a whole season it was about contract extensions and now everyone wants to know who is coming in.”
“We don’t talk about it in public until we sign them and then you can ask me all about it.”
Slot’s words don’t dismiss the story — far from it. Instead, they reflect a coach carefully navigating the early days of his tenure, unwilling to overpromise or undermine the work being done behind the scenes.
While speculation about Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future and positional flexibility continues to linger, Slot is aware of the need for tactical variety. His comments hint at confidence in current options, while leaving the door ajar for potential reinforcements.
“Conor can play it, Joe Gomez, so it is not like once Trent leaves I don’t know what to do but we are always looking at interesting players, who can improve our squad.”
It’s not difficult to read between the lines. Slot knows that Liverpool’s right side may need reinforcement, particularly if Alexander-Arnold is pushed further into midfield. Frimpong’s skillset – aggressive in the press, comfortable in possession, and incisive in the final third – matches the kind of profile Liverpool have targeted in recent years.
Slot’s response may have been cautious, but Liverpool’s strategy rarely involves short-termism. Any move for Frimpong would underline a longer-term vision built on energy, tactical flexibility, and European pedigree. The Dutchman is still only 24, yet he already possesses the experience and mentality needed to slot into a side with lofty ambitions.
