Arsenal youth goalkeeper Owen Asemota has completed a transfer to Aston Villa, with the Gunners reportedly set to receive £1m.

Aston Villa confirmed on Wednesday that Owen Asemota has completed a move to their academy after leaving Arsenal.

Villa academy manager Mark Harrison said of the move: “We are delighted Owen has joined us.

“As you can imagine, a player with his profile was highly sought after. He is a player we believe has high potential, having also represented England.

“He has very good athletic qualities and ball management skills, which really suit our style of play. We look forward to working with Owen and seeing how he develops over the next few years.”

Before the move to Villa was officially confirmed, Asemota posted his farewell to Arsenal on Instagram.

“Thank you,” Asemota began. “After eight unforgettable years, the time has come for me to leave the club.

“This journey has been filled with incredible highs and challenging moments, all of which have shaped me into the person and player I am today.

“I want to express my deepest gratitude to the coaches who have guided me, believed in me, and helped me grow throughout this journey. Your support and mentorship have been invaluable, and I will always cherish the lessons I’ve learned from each of you.

“To my teammates, thank you for your unwavering support and for making my time at Arsenal so special. This club will always hold a special place in my heart, and I will forever be a Gooner.

“With heartfelt thanks and best wishes, Owen.”

Recent reports confirmed that Arsenal are set to receive £1m in compensation for the deal, as Asemota spent many years with the academy and was offered a contract extension.

The delay in the announcement was due to Arsenal and Villa going through the process to finalise that compensation payment.

Asemota becomes one of nine goalkeepers to leave Arsenal this summer, if you count David Raya leaving at the end of his loan before returning as a permanent signing.

The list also includes Aaron Ramsdale to Southampton, Karl Hein to Real Valladolid on loan, Ovie Ejeheri to Midtjylland, Arthur Okonkwo to Wrexham, Noah Cooper to Stoke City, James Hillson to Southend United, and Hubert Graczyk to Manchester United.
