Arsenal are interested in landing the signature of Brazilian starlet Vitor Reis from Palmeiras, according to Sunday Mirror (page 66).

The Gunners were cautious with their spending in the recent transfer window. They made just three outfield signings in Riccardo Calafiori, Mikel Merino and Raheem Sterling (on loan).

The club did not pursue more marquee signings, having been unable to prise away their top targets. Benjamin Sesko and Nico Williams preferred to stay at their respective European clubs.

It is now reported that Arsenal are one of the teams following Palmeiras wonderkid Vitor Reis, and talks have already been held with the teenager’s representatives over a potential transfer deal.

Sunday Mirror describe the centre-back as a ‘world-class talent’ who is a ‘strong ball winner’ with ‘great long-range passing’. The 18-year-old has a release clause worth £85 million in his contract.

Arsenal unlikely to pursue deal for Reis

Palmeiras have became the main focus for elite European clubs with the emerging talents in their ranks.

Endrick recently made the switch to Real Madrid while Estevao Willian will be arriving at Chelsea soon.

West Ham United have also recruited Luis Guilherme, who is a winger with immense future potential.

Reis has been identified as the next big thing at Palmeiras. The young centre-back has made 11 appearances in the Brazilian top-flight in the ongoing campaign.

He has impressed with a passing accuracy of 92% with 70% aerial duels won per game. He has also excelled with his recoveries, tackling and ability to clear his lines.

Reis has a big future ahead of him, but we would be surprised if Arsenal pursue his signature.

The Gunners have William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes as undisputed starters in central defence with plenty of quality back-up options for the position.

Riccardo Calafiori, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Jurrien Timber, Jakub Kiwior and Ben White can deputise in the heart of the backline if one of them were to be rested.

Palmeiras could easily hold out for £50m or more for their starlet. We don’t see a deal happening unless both Tomiyasu and Kiwior leave the club by next summer.

The pair have been linked with possible returns to Serie A for some time.
