Arsenal legend Rachel Yankey has become the second inductee to be admitted to the Barclays FA Women’s Super League’s Hall of Fame.

The Football Association announced the news via an official press release earlier today. The announcement comes off the back of the news that Fara Williams MBE has become the first inductee to the Barclays FA Women’s Super League’s Hall of Fame this morning.

Yankey was a member of an Arsenal side which won the first-ever FA Women’s Super League 1 title in 2011 while the player won a second title the following year.

The winger spent 11 years with The Gunners, five of those saw her play in the FA Women’s Super League 1. She hung up her boots in 2016 following her release by Arsenal. Yankey left Meadow Park having scored 43 goals in 151 appearances for the club while she collected 22 winners’ medals during her time in North London.

Speaking following Yankey’s inclusion in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League’s Hall of Fame, Suzanne Wrack, journalist and member of the Barclays FA Women’s Super League Hall of Fame selection panel, said “I am delighted that Rachel Yankey has been unveiled as one of the first-ever Barclays FA Women’s Super League Hall of Fame inductees.

“She was always a player I admired and one of those individuals who you could tell genuinely enjoyed every minute she had on the pitch.

“Watching her as a player was an absolute pleasure and I am thrilled that she is taking that knowledge into coaching. She is fully deserving of her induction into the inaugural Barclays FA Women’s Super League Hall of Fame.”

Two more individuals will be inducted to the Barclays FA Women’s Super League’s Hall of Fame within the next 24 hours while extended interviews will be available to watch on Sky Sports’ ‘Inside the WSL’ show at 6pm tomorrow evening on Sky Sports Premier League.

A dedicated website to the Barclays FA Women’s Super League Hall of Fame will launch to coincide with the final inductee being unveiled at wslhalloffame.thefa.com.  You can keep up with the latest inductee unveilings on the Barclays FA WSL Twitter page.
