Arsenal have reportedly joined the list of clubs interested in signing Real Valladolid defender Fernando Calero.
The Gunners are on the hunt for a new centre-back after seeing Rob Holding go down with an ACL injury during their draw with Manchester United earlier this month.
Holding looks set to miss at least six months and with youngster Dinos Mavropanos also sidelined, the north London side are desperately short of cover at the back.
As such, Unai Emery looks set to dip into the transfer market in January and a story in Cadena Ser on Tuesday has insisted that Calero is their number one target.
The 23-year-old has been ever-present for the Pucela this season and has previously been rumoured to be of interest to Borussia Dortmund and Sevilla.
It’s claimed that Calero could be available for as little as €11m with Arsenal ready to test Valladolid’s resolve with an offer next month.
New head of recruitment Sven Mislantat has impressed with his hit-rate on new signings so far, with the likes Matteo Guendouzi and Lucas Torreira becoming established first team stars.
