Arsenal received another £2m from Fulham for Bernd Leno this summer, which should be the last of his add-ons.

When Bernd Leno joined Fulham from Arsenal, it was for a surprisingly low fee of just £3m, but with another £5m in add-ons.

Those add-on payments were relatively achievable, and Arsenal received the first £2m payment last summer when Fulham avoided relegation.

The Standard reported that the Gunners would be due a further £2m if Fulham avoided relegation again, which they did. So Arsenal will have received another payment this summer.

The final £1m add-on payment was based on Leno’s Premier League appearances.

Though the exact figure has never been specified, Leno has already made 75 league appearances for Fulham, so presumably he’s also hit that target. If not, he should hit it soon, as he remains Fulham’s starting goalkeeper.

It looks as though Arsenal will receive the full £8m for Leno in the end. Still arguably not enough for a quality Premier League goalkeeper, but significantly better than the initial £3m.

Leno has kept 18 clean sheets in 79 games for Fulham in all competitions, after keeping 37 in 125 matches for Arsenal.

The goalkeeper was unfortunate to miss out on Euro 2024 this summer, with Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann suggesting he would have been called up if not for an untimely shoulder injury. The target now will be to return to the squad for the World Cup.
