Arsenal picked up a third straight Premier League win following a hard-fought victory against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium today
The Gunners had a tough opening half. They had a solitary clear-cut chance which Leandro Trossard fumbled.
The second half had a similar start. Ethan Nwaneri hit the woodwork twice but eventually played a key role in the victory.
The 17-year-old delivered a peach of a cross for substitute Mikel Merino to head home in the 81st minute.
Merino went on to secure a brace as a makeshift striker, but Nwaneri was deservedly handed the man of the match award.
The teenager had a 91 percent passing accuracy and won 13 out of 16 duels. He also won all three of his tackles and completed seven dribbles.
Nwaneri is considered one of the best players to come out of the club’s youth system and proved his immense potential against the Foxes.
In the absence of Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli on the right wing, Nwaneri showed that he can be a reliable figure for Mikel Arteta’s side.
Nwaneri has a major role to play over the coming weeks, as Saka and Martinelli may not return until after the international break.
Arsenal closed the gap to leaders Liverpool to four points after yesterday’s win. The Reds have a game in hand against Wolverhampton Wanderers this afternoon. Arsenal will hope their rivals slip up.
The Gunners’ next league game will be a London derby against West Ham United at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
