Nypan has been attracting interest from Arsenal and Manchester City’s sister club Girona, who coincidentally played each other in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

The 18-year-old has been speaking to clubs this month with the expectation that he would leave Rosenborg before Monday’s transfer deadline.

But Nypan’s father, Arne, has now confirmed reports that his son will be staying put until the summer.

“The most important thing for us is to confirm that there is enormous interest from big and prestigious clubs,” he told Norwegian newspaper Adresseavisen.

“Given that, Sverre has always thought long-term. We consider it an advantage for him to stay at RBK until the summer.

“This is also in line with what both Rosenborg and the potential clubs are thinking. They are also taking a long-term approach.”

Arsenal are keen to revamp their midfield in the summer given that both Jorginho and Thomas Partey are 30 and out of contract at the end of the season.

The Gunners are confident of wrapping up a deal for Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, which they have been working on for months.

Nypan would further bolster their options and the teenager is regarded as one of the hottest prospects in Europe.

He made his debut for Rosenborg aged just 15 and has been scouted by top clubs ever since.

Arsenal will hope they can still win the race for him given that it would allow Nypan the chance to learn from current Norway captain Martin Odegaard in north London.
