Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has confirmed that youngster Ethan Nwaneri will be out for “a few weeks”.
The 17-year-old scored in the 1-1 draw with Brighton on Saturday before being substituted at half-time because of injury.
Arteta revealed after the game he was worried that the attacking midfielder would be set for a spell on the sidelines and has now confirmed that he will be out for a number of weeks.
“Unfortunately he’s picked up a muscular injury, he will be out for a few weeks,” he said.
The Gunners boss is hopeful that Kai Havertz will be able to return to the squad for the Carabao Cup semi-final with Newcastle having missed the last two games with illness, however.
“I hope so,” Arteta said when asked about whether he will be back. “But I don’t want to say yes because last time I said he would be fit and he wasn’t fit.”
