Arsenal have discovered their next potential Champions League opponents after the knockout round play-offs were completed.

Feyenoord and PSV Eindhoven have booked their places in the last-16 after seeing off Italian clubs in their respective play-off ties.

A narrow 2-1 aggregate victory over AC Milan sent Feyenoord through, while PSV needed extra time to secure a 4-3 win overall against Juventus.

If Arsenal were to be drawn against Feyenoord, they could have some old scores to settle.

Former striker Robin van Persie, who has become a pantomime villain for most fans, looks poised to be appointed as the new head coach of Feyenoord in the next few days.

The former Gunners captain is guaranteed to receive a feisty welcome at the Emirates Stadium if he takes charge of Feyenoord.

Arsenal and PSV have faced each other in Europe in the last two seasons. The Gunners have won both home games while drawing and losing another in the Netherlands.

Mikel Arteta’s side will play the first leg of the round of 16 on the road on March 4 or 5, with the reverse fixture in front of their supporters at the Emirates on March 11 or 12.

The Gunners have a potentially favourable draw on their hands, but they can’t take things for granted and must produce strong performances to reach the quarter-final stage.

The draw for the rest of the competition will be held on Friday. Arsenal will face one of Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich or Bayer Leverkusen if they reach the last eight.
