AS Monaco have confirmed that club captain Wissam Ben Yedder (33) will leave the club upon the expiry of his contract.

Ben Yedder joined the Principality club back in 2019 and went on to become the club’s second-highest scorer of all-time (118 goals), behind only Delio Onnis. This season, Monaco’s captain netted 20 goals, guiding the club back to the UEFA Champions League for the first time since the 2018/19 season.

However, there has been uncertainty surrounding his future, given the expiry of his contract. At a roundtable interview, attended by Get French Football News earlier this week, the club’s CEO Thiago Scuro, addressed the future of the France international.

I had a talk with him yesterday. It was a very good one-on-one conversation. It was good to reflect on the season, to listen to him, to listen to his expectations for the future, and how he sees himself,” began the Monaco CEO.

He added, “A player like him being free is very attractive in the market. It is not just Monaco’s decision, it’s also his. We now expect conversations with his agent. Yesterday was more of a reflection between us two. We expect to continue to progress this week to have a decision on both sides. My goal is for a decision to be made this week. It is not totally clear yet what he wants. He is reflecting.

Following those talks, it has been decided that Ben Yedder will not continue at AS Monaco. Upon the announcement of the decision, Scuro said, “Everyone knows Wissam’s qualities as an exceptional striker with an incredible sense of the game and of scoring goals. What he has done on the pitch over the last five seasons will go down in the Club’s history. We wish him all the best for the future.”
