AS Monaco have an uphill task to qualify for the next round of the UEFA Champions League. They head to Lisbon next week to face Benfica with a one-goal deficit to overturn. The Principality club are already without Denis Zakaria, Vanderson, and Moatasem Al-Musrati through suspension and there are now two considerable injuries to add to that list.
Soungoutou Magassa suffered a facial injury late on during the 1-0 defeat to Benfica at the Stade Louis II on Wednesday. The concussion protocol already rules him out of Saturday’s game against FC Nantes but, speaking on Friday’s press conference, Adi Hütter revealed that the France youth international had suffered a fracture in his face. Magassa was, nonetheless, suspended for the match against Les Canaris on Saturday.
In addition, Aleksandr Golovin has suffered an adductor injury and will also miss both the match against Nantes and Benfica. It is a big blow for Monaco, who will be able to count on just one first-team midfielder, in the form of Lamine Camara, in Portugal next week. A difficult task just got a lot more difficult.
