Mamadou Coulibaly (20) prior to Sunday’s match against FC Nantes, had eagerly awaited the chance to start his first match for formative club AS Monaco. Having made five cameos from the bench for the Principality club this season, however, with Monaco already guaranteed of second place in Ligue 1, the box-to-box midfielder was thrown into the starting XI on the final game of the season.
The France youth international was injured midway through the first half of Monaco’s 4-0 win over Les Canaris. Whilst he continued until the break, Coulibaly did not emerge from the dressing room at half-time. On Tuesday night, the Monaco midfielder then took to social media to reveal that he had suffered an ACL injury.
“This ordeal will be long and difficult to come through but that is part of life,” said Coulibaly on Instagram, adding that he would be sidelined with the injury for several months. It is a cruel blow, not only for Coulibaly, who would have been targeting a breakthrough into the first team next season but also for Monaco.
It is Monaco’s third ACL injury of the season after Breel Embolo and Caio Henrique also suffered similar injuries, missing the vast majority of the campaign.
