Asensio’s former agent reminisces on Milan interest and Italian future: “Best way for him” | OneFootball

Marco Asensio is currently enjoying a loan spell with Aston Villa in England, but his agent has suggested that things could have been different due to interest from AC Milan in the past.

Few players are as underrated as Asensio in Europe you’d have to argue. A three-time La Liga winner and a three-time Champions League winner, the winger is one of the more decorated players in the past 10 years, yet he largely goes under the radar for most.

So when the Spaniard moved to Paris Saint-Germain in 2023, it was hoped that he would get slightly more limelight than sitting in the shadows at Real Madrid, but this was not the case.

Now, he finds himself at Aston Villa, where he has hit the ground running with two goals in his first four games in the Midlands.

With his future still quite open, his former agent Horacio Gaggioli has spoken to SportItalia about the winger, and Football Italia have his words.

“It’s not surprising that it’s all started in the best way for him in the Premier League. He is an important player who, if played in his preferred role, can make a difference at the highest level.

“Obviously I would recommend him to any Italian team. Wherever he goes, if he plays in the position where he can perform at his best, he will always be a great player.”

“There was a time when he could have been a Milan player. Then, before going to Madrid, I met with Roma, but nothing came of it. We’re talking about 2014.”
