Aston Villa announce five-match pre-season programme | OneFootball

Aston Villa have announced the news that they will play five pre-season friendlies in preparation for the new Barclays Women’s Super League campaign.

The Villans confirmed their pre-season schedule via a post on their official club X account this afternoon.

After recently returning to training, Robert de Pauw’s Aston Villa side will face Barclays Women’s Super League rivals Liverpool in a pre-season friendly at Melwood on Saturday. The Villans will then travel to Marbella to take on Spanish side Real Betis on Friday 23 August 2024 before facing Barclays Women’s Championship club Charlton Athletic at The Valley on Sunday 1 September 2024. Aston Villa will then travel to Everton on Sunday 8 September 2024 before completing their pre-season programme with a match against Manchester City at Bodymoor Heath on Saturday 14 September 2024.

At this stage, four of Aston Villa’s five pre-season friendlies will be played out behind-closed-doors. The fixture against Charlton Athletic at The Valley will see supporters permitted to attend. That game will celebrate the hosts’ first full season playing their home matches in the main stadium.

Aston Villa kick-off the new Barclays Women’s Super League season on Friday 20 September 2024 when they travel to Kingsmeadow to face reigning champions Chelsea. It is the toughest possible start for new Aston Villa boss de Pauw.
