WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Villans this evening.
The 28-year-old moves to the Barclays Women’s Super League off the back of a four-year spell as head coach of Spanish top flight club Real Sociedad.
Arroyo guided Real Socieded to four consecutive top half of the table finishes in finetwork Liga F. The club’s best finish came in 2021/2022 when they were runners-up to FC Barcelona. La Real were runners-up in the Copa de la Reina de Fútbol last season, again losing out to FC Barcelona in the final. Prior to her spell in charge of Real Socieded, Arroyo was the head coach of Catalonia Women.
As a player, Arroyo featured for both FC Barcelona and RCD Espanyol.
After appointing Arroyo as Aston Villa’s new head coach, head of women’s football, Lee Billiard said “We are familiar with Natalia’s playing style and admire her philosophy. After an in-depth search, Natalia has consistently stood out in meeting our requirements. We look forward to working with her as we continue to build the women’s programme for success.”
Caretaker Shaun Goater will remain in charge for this weekend’s fixture against Manchester City. Arroyo will officially take charge of the team in the lead up to next weekend’s match against Chelsea.
