Aston Villa have made an offer to sign Argentina defender Juan Foyth in the January transfer window, according to Lyall Thomas.
Villa are looking to bolster their defence in the January window after selling Diego Carlos to Fenerbahce.
The Villans are looking to sign Chelsea defender Axel Disasi, but they are also keen to land Foyth from Villarreal, a player Unai Emery knows very well.
The Sky Sports journalist claims that Villa have submitted a bid for the 27-year-old defender, but they are yet to receive a response from the La Liga club.
Emery confirmed that Foyth is one of the targets for Villa. He has been “superb” for Villarreal since leaving Tottenham Hotspur, and Emery could play a big part in bringing him to the Premier League.
Thomas wrote on X: “Understand Aston Villa have made an offer for Juan Foyth and it’s being considered by Villarreal. Unai Emery admitted he was one of their targets yesterday. Been superb in Spain since leaving Tottenham.”
Foyth was a key part of Emery’s side that won the Europa League with Villarreal in 2020/21.
The fact that the La Liga side are considering the offer indicates that Villa have every reason to be optimistic that a deal can be reached.
Foyth spent four years with Spurs but made only 32 appearances. He is now a more experienced defender and could be tempted to move to the Premier League.
Villa were heavily linked with a move for Loic Bade this month. After they failed to land him from Sevilla, the Villans turned their attention towards signing Foyth.
Foyth has recently returned to action after a long injury lay-off. He has made four appearances in La Liga this season.
