Scorers: Luiz 30′, 51′, Watkins 74′, Bailey 89′; Bowen 56′

The game got off to a flier with West Ham coming close after breaking from the edge of their own box.

Lucas Paquetá drove with the ball before picking out Michail Antonio who returned the ball to him. The Brazilian then teed up Jarrod Bowen, whose shot was saved at point blank range. The flag went up for offside immediately after but it was a definite warning sign for the home side.

Villa should have opened the scoring shortly after but Ollie Watkins fired wide from less than six yards out after being played in by Moussa Diaby.

Watkins played provider for Villa’s opener, setting the ball up for Douglas Luiz on the edge of the box. From here, the Brazilian fired home yet another goal at home – he has now scored in six consecutive Premier League games at Villa Park.

It was two for Luiz and Villa shortly after the break, this time from the penalty spot. Paquetá diddled on the ball and played it back into his own box, only to have his pass intercepted by Ollie Watkins, who was taken down by Nayer Aguerd. Luiz made no mistake from 12 yards out.

West Ham got a lifeline minutes later, and some serious luck. Jarrod Bowen cut in from the right and saw his shot deflect off Pau Torres and creep into the Villa net.

Villa restored their two goal lead in the 74th minute through Ollie Watkins. After a great ball from John McGinn, Watkins eyed up Kurt Zouma and hammered home a stunning left-footed shot into the roof of the West Ham net from a tight angle.

Leon Bailey rounded off a brilliant afternoon for Unai Emery’s men with the fourth and final goal in the 89th minute and what a goal it was. Youri Tielemans played in the Jamaican, who fashioned an opening and finished expertly into the top corner.

Villa move into fifth and just two points off the top of the table after their 11th straight home win.
