WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Villans this afternoon.
Staniforth joined Aston Villa in the January 2023 transfer window after leaving former club Manchester United. The 31-year-old has gone on to make 32 appearances for The Villans in all competitions while she has scored one goal. Staniforth helped Aston Villa to record a seventh-place finish in the Barclays Women’s Super League in 2023/2024.
The midfielder is an important member of the Aston Villa squad and she will be hoping to impress the club’s new manager Robert de Pauw in the upcoming season.
After retaining Staniforth’s services for another year, Aston Villa’s Head of Women’s Football, Lee Billiard said “We are pleased to keep Lucy on board for another year. She possesses such experience, technical ability and knowledge of the game that rubs off on those around her. Lucy is a good leader on the field and an experienced head in games.
“We all missed her presence during the final months of last season but we are looking forward to having her back fit and healthy for the upcoming campaign.”
Staniforth is the fifth player to sign a contract extension at Aston Villa this summer.
