Marco Asensio (29) only joined Aston Villa last week on loan until the end of the season, however, Fabrizio Romano has already provided an update on the Spaniard’s long-term future.

Asensio found himself on the outskirts of the Paris Saint-Germain team at the start of this season, especially since the return of Gonçalo Ramos from injury, whilst Ousmane Dembélé’s success playing through the middle further limited the Spain international’s minutes at the Parc des Princes.

A loan move away from PSG was therefore logical and he joined Premier League side Aston Villa in the dying hours of the winter transfer window. He made his debut off the bench in an FA Cup win over Tottenham Hotspur (2-1). Asensio joined on a straight loan and so no buy option was included in the deal.

However, that doesn’t mean that the former Real Madrid man won’t remain at Villa Park, Romano understands. As per the Italian journalist, both PSG and Aston Villa are open to the deal becoming permanent at the end of the campaign. Naturally, the final decision will be based on performances.
