Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has reached an agreement over personal terms with Aston Villa, reports the reliable Fabrizio Romano.
Rashford has been exiled by Rubem Amorim, not featuring in any of the club’s last 12 matches across all competitions.
The England international fell out of favour under Amorim and it has been suggested this was after a heated incident that occurred just days after the Portuguese coach’s appointment as Erik ten Hag’s replacement.
Rashford has attracted interest from all over Europe in the January window but his wages have proved to be a key stumbling block in getting any deal over the line.
It’s understood that United have consistently maintained they want any suitor to cover all or the majority of his salary, in excess of £325,000-a-week.
On Friday, it was revealed that United had entered talks with Villa over a loan transfer for Rashford, at the personal request of Unai Emery.
Emery is a fan of the Carrington academy graduate and believes he can help him rediscover his best form.
A subsequent report noted that Villa were closing in on an agreement with United over a six-month loan deal. It was stated that this arrangement would include an option to buy Rashford at the end of the season.
Now, Romano has given an update, indicating that Rashford has agreed personal terms with Villa.
“Marcus Rashford and Aston Villa, deal close as negotiations are now progressing to the final stages. Loan move until June, salary covered and discussions ongoing about buy clause.”
“Rashford has also spoken to Unai Emery, he’s aware of Aston Villa desire to get him.”
According to journalist Luca Bendoni, Villa will cover 60% of Rashford’s salary. Bendoni wrote on X, “Aston Villa and Manchester United are negotiating the last terms of Marcus Rashford deal. It is expected to be a loan + option.”
“Villa are expected to pay more than half of the salary until June [should be 60/40 with United]. In case the option is triggered, Rashford should sign a deal until 2028.”
Chris Wheeler of the Daily Mail notes that Rashford is already preparing to move to Villa and has already said his goodbyes to teammates and staff at Carrington.
United are back in action on Sunday when they host Oliver Glasner’s Crystal Palace at Old Trafford.
