Aston Villa head to Brentford this weekend buoyed by a big win in the Champions League.
Unai Emery’s team have one foot in the competition’s quarter-finals after an accomplished 3-1 win at Club Brugge.
Attention now turns back to the Premier League and ensuring another season in Europe’s top club competition. Currently 10th, Villa have won just one of their last seven league games. However, Emery’s side remain just five points from the Champions League places.
Villa face a Brentford side who are just a place behind them in the Premier League table. The Bees also have a game in hand on The Villans and are an outside chance to gatecrash the European places. However, Brentford have failed to win in their last six games at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Unai Emery’s treatment room is reducing in positive news for the Spaniard. Pau Torres made his return to the squad as an unused substitute in Brugge, a welcome boost to the side.
Amadou Onana and Ross Barkley remain sidelined but it’s otherwise a full-strength squad for The Villans.
Ollie Watkins is aiming to continue his impressive record against his former team. The 29-year-old has five goals and an assist in six previous Premier League appearances against Brentford. Watkins spent three seasons with the West Londoners, scoring 49 goals in 143 games, before a £28m move to Villa Park in 2020.
Aston Villa predicted XI: Martinez; Cash, Konsa, Mings, Maatsen; Tielemans, McGinn, Asensio; Rogers, Rashford, Watkins.
