Jed Steer is set to leave Aston Villa at the end of this season, according to The Athletic.

The 30-year-old has been on the books of the Midlands club since 2013 and is their longest-serving player.

He hasn’t played in the Premier League since September 2021, when he featured against Chelsea because Emiliano Martinez was on international duty.

It wasn’t one of Steer’s best displays, with Villa losing 3-0 at Stamford Bridge.

He was loaned out to Luton Town for the second half of the 2021-22 season but made only three Championship appearances for the Hatters.

The former Norwich City player has been out of action since rupturing his Achilles tendon.

His first-team prospects at Villa are slim, with three goalkeepers ahead of him in the pecking order.

Robin Olsen has been playing second fiddle to Martinez, while Villa also have Finland international Viljami Sinisalo on their books.

Steer’s contract expires in June, and he is not expected to be given a new deal.

The 30-year-old has made only 36 appearances for Villa during his 10-year stay at the club.

However, he is still very popular among fans due to his important contributions during their 2018-19 promotion-winning campaign.

The English goalkeeper featured in 16 Championship matches to help his side secure a fifth-place finish.

He also started Villa’s play-off victories over West Bromwich Albion and Derby County as they won promotion to the Premier League.
