Barcelona are into the Supercopa de Espana final, having done enough to beat Athletic Club by a 2-0 score-line in their semi-final tie in Saudi Arabia.
Hansi Flick’s side have endured a turgid win-less run in La Liga since early December, but returned to action in 2025 with a Copa del Rey victory over lower league Barbastro over the weekend and have now enjoyed a statement victory against Athletic Club.
Gavi broke the deadlock during the opening quarter of the game in the city of Jeddah, finishing off a lovely team goal by tapping in the cutback from Alejandro Balde.
Although both sides had further chances, it wasn’t until the early stages of the second half that Lamine Yamal doubled the Barcelona lead. The teenager expertly took in a pass from Gavi on the turn, before burying the chance past Unai Simon at the near post.
Athletic Club had the ball in the net twice late on, first through substitute Oscar de Marcos, and then from captain Inaki Williams, but both efforts were ruled out for offside.
The Catalans will face either Real Madrid or Mallorca in Sunday’s final.
