La Liga outfit Athletic Club’s latest victory on Sunday proved an altogether significant one when it comes to the history books in the Basque Country.
Ernesto Valverde’s troops marked their return to action a short time ago, making the trip to Balaídos for a league meeting with Celta Vigo.
When all was said and done, Athletic emerged on the right side of a 2-1 result, owing to goals on the part of Álex Berenguer and Dani Vivian.
And yet, their latest three-point haul did not only prove significant in guiding Los Leones level with Barcelona in 3rd in the La Liga table.
In addition, it proved a noteworthy one when it comes to the club’s storied history.
As revealed by statisticians Opta:
‘Athletic have not lost any of their last 11 La Liga games (W7 D4), their longest unbeaten run in the competition since October 1985 under Javier Clemente (G16 W11 D5).’
