Atlético de Madrid continue to take massive steps forward in LaLiga's title race after securing a 1-0 home win over Osasuna.
Scorers: Alvarez 55'
A dominant opening salvo from Atléti nearly saw Diego Simeone’s men jump to an early lead thanks to French star Antoine Griezmann, but an intervening VAR overturned the quickfire start from the home side.
Osasuna eventually settled into proceedings in the Spanish capital after what looked to be one-way traffic across the entire opening 45 minutes and did well enough to reach the halftime interval still level on the scoresheet at a tricky ground to find a result.
Despite proceedings looking to divulge into a frustrating home outing, Atléti would finally take the lead seventeen minutes after the restart when Argentine hitman Julián Alvarez bagged his 5th La Liiga goal of the 2024-25 campaign.
That lone strike would be enough to bag all three points for Simeone's men, who now sit top of the table, ahead of domestic rivals Barcelona and Real Madrid who are set for the Supercopa de España final later this evening.
More impressively, their current run of form now sits as a club record 14 matches unbeaten across all competitions.
With form like this, there is a real chance that the La Liga crown will once again reside outside of the big two.
