Atletico Madrid centre-back Stefan Savic looks set to leave the club after spending half of his career under Diego Simeone. Savic was signed from Fiorentina for €12m, a fee he has more than repaid.

The 33-year-old has accepted an offer from Trabzonspor, say Relevo, which will see him leave on a free. He had a year left on his deal, after it was automatically extended this season, due to the number of games he had played. They have offered the veteran defender a three-year deal, and Los Rojiblancos will get something in the way of a small compensation for for his exit.

Savic was no longer the effective praise he has been for Atletico in recent years, and was being dropped in and out of Diego Simeone’s plans. With defence one of the key areas Atletico were looking to improve this summer, and Robin Le Normand set to arrive imminently, Savic clearly saw the writing on the wall.
