Atlético Madrid & Girona tipped for surprise exchange deal | OneFootball

A head-turning exchange proposal between La Liga pair Atlético Madrid and Girona has been floated in the Spanish media on Saturday.

The info comes courtesy of Deportes Cuatro, and centers on Atlético boss Diego Simeone’s keen interest in a member of the defensive ranks at Girona.

The player in question? Miguel Gutiérrez.

Left-back Gutiérrez is understood to be held in altogether high regard by the coaching staff in Spain’s capital.

It has in turn been suggested that Atléti, amid something of a squad overhaul across the summer to date, could seek out the signature of the 23-year-old over the summer’s final weeks.

And, in exchange, the Wanda Metropolitano brass could offer up a member of their own squad, in Rodrigo Riquelme.

Spaniard Riquelme spent the 2022/23 campaign plying his trade on loan with Girona, shining on his way to four goals and four assists in 34 La Liga appearances.

Amid the assumption that Míchel would be eager to bring the 24-year-old back if afforded the opportunity, Deportes Cuatro therefore highlight Riquelme as a potential bargaining chip in a move for Gutiérrez.
