Atletico Madrid defender Caglar Soyuncu saw little game time before he left on loan to Fenerbahce in January. The Turkish centre-back was not judged to be the solution to Atletico’s defensive problems by Diego Simeone, and it appears he will not be next season either.
As per Relevo, Soyuncu is keen to remain at Fenerbahce next season. The 27-year-old was keen to get more game time to make it to the Euros in the best shape possible with Turkey, but is enjoying being back in his home country.
Soyuncu has made 14 appearances for Fenerbahce, collecting 905 minutes in total, half of which were starts. The capital club do not have a buy option though, and it is not yet clear how much Atletico will demand, although prior reports had suggested €10-15m.
Los Rojiblancos are trying to revamp the middle of their defence with Mario Hermoso also set to leave, and Stefan Savic also potentially exiting, but do not plan on bringing Soyuncu back next season one way or another. It looks as if Simeone has made up his mind. Whatever Atletico sell him for, it will be at a profit after he joined from Leicester City on a free last summer.
