Atlético Madrid respond to Barcelona’s Julián Alvarez interest | OneFootball

Atlético Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has on Tuesday spoken out on the surprise recent links between star attacker Julián Alvarez, and La Liga rivals Barcelona.

The name of frontman Alvarez has returned to the forefront of the headlines in Spain over the course of the last 24 hours.

This comes after El Chiringuito TV reported that the Argentine is back on the agenda at the aforementioned Barcelona.

Amid an ongoing search for a long-term replacement for the aging Robert Lewandowski, Deco and the Camp Nou brass are understood to have earmarked Alvarez as a leading option for next summer.

Speaking during his own exchange with the media on Tuesday, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of Alvarez’s Blaugrana links were quickly put to Enrique Cerezo.

And, in quotes gathered by Esport3, relaid by Mundo Deportivo, Atlético’s president provided a cheeky response:

“Laporta likes Julián Alvarez? And Yamal likes me, we have the same tastes!”

Cerezo continued:

“Julián is an Atlético de Madrid player and he’s delighted at Atlético de Madrid. I think he is and always will be our player. He will grow up and die at Atlético de Madrid.”
