The player had to battle against long-term injury and spells of being out of favour at former club Aston Villa but Haywood’s time at Sheffield United has helped her get back on track.

Speaking after announcing her Sheffield United departure, Haywood said “After two years, I have decided it’s the right time for me to leave Sheffield United.

“I want to say a big thank you to all the staff and fans for all their support and for giving me an opportunity to get back to playing the game I love after injury.

“I am also so grateful to my teammates and feel very lucky to have made such great friendships during my two years as a Blade. I’m very proud of the togetherness we created through the incredibly difficult times as well as the good. I wish all of them the very best in whatever is next. UTB!”

Haywood is the eighth player to leave Sheffield United this summer.
