Augsburg

The hosts will be looking to return to winning ways after failing to win any of their last three competitive matches. Augsburg played out a 1-1 draw with St. Pauli, before they fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat in their DFB-Pokal clash against Stuttgart. They then had to settle for a goalless scoreline in Saturday’s away meeting with Mainz 05.

While they have gone three competitive games without a win, Augsburg will be pleased with the fact that they have avoided defeat in each of their last five Bundesliga matches (W3, D2). They may be sitting in the bottom half of the table, but they are much closer to the top six than they are to the drop zone. In fact, there is a six-point gap between themselves and the European places, while they boast a sizeable 13-point buffer to the bottom three.

After competing in three consecutive away matches, Augsburg will now return to the WWK Arena for the first time since beating Heidenheim on January 25. However, their hopes of claiming another home win may be tempered by the fact they have failed to win their last 16 competitive meetings with Leipzig.

Team News

Augsburg are expected to be without Mërgim Berisha, Mads Pedersen, Robert Gumny and Yusuf Kabadayi.

RB Leipzig

Leipzig are currently sitting in fourth place after winning 10, drawing six and losing five of their 21 league matches. Die Roten Bullen may occupy a top-four spot, but they cannot afford to rest on their laurels with Stuttgart just one point adrift in fifth position. After going four league games without a win (D3, L1), Leipzig returned to winning ways in Sunday’s home meeting with St. Pauli. Benjamin Šeško and Xavi Simons grabbed a goal apiece in the first period, and while Willi Orbán was sent off in the second period, Marco Rose’s side stood firm to clinch a 2-0 victory at the Red Bull Arena.

Die Roten Bullen will be desperate to enjoy more success in Friday’s away clash, especially as they have failed to win any of their last four away league matches. They may be unbeaten in 16 head-to-head matches, but they have had to settle for draws in each of their last three visits to the WWK Arena. As a result of those draws, Leipzig are looking to record their first away victory over Augsburg since running out 3-0 winners in a Pokal tie in December 2020.

Team News

Leipzig have revealed that Antonio Nusa will be out until the end of March after picking up a knee injury against St. Pauli. Nusa is joined on the sidelines by Benjamin Henrichs, Xaver Schlager and Assan Ouédraogo. Meanwhile, Orbán will serve a one-match ban after being shown a straight red card last weekend.
