As reported by Kicker, Augsburg have set their sights on Darmstadt striker Phillip Tietz.
The 25-year-old Brunswick native is considered by those at Augsburg to be a suitable replacement for the departing Mergim Berisha. Last campaign, Berisha played a key role in ensuring the Fuggerstädter remained a Bundesliga club with 13 goal contributions, however, he has since expressed his desire to leave.
Therefore, Augsburg have identified Darmstadt’s Tietz and discussions with the newly promoted side have begun. Former Union Berlin Sven Michel was signed earlier on in the window, but he is not considered to be the replacement for Berisha.
Last season, Tietz scored 14 goals and collected five assists from 37 games in all competitions which helped guide Die Lilien back to the Bundesliga for the first time since the 2016/17 campaign. A combined 27 goals in his last two seasons in the 2. Bundesliga has earnt the 25-year-old a chance to impress in Germany’s top tier.
If this move does go through it will be bitter for Darmstadt, who have also seen their commanding centre-back Patric Pfeiffer join Enrico Maaßen’s this summer on a free transfer. Augsburg will also attempt to lure a right-back to Bavaria as they look to add competition for Robert Gumny.
