MIAMI – The action in Central American Leagues across Concacaf is in full swing following opening weekends in El Salvador, Honduras, and Panama.

Standout performances from Pedro Báez and Miguel Tercero delivered hat-tricks for their respective clubs, while Agustín Auzmendi and Barlon Sequeira posted braces.

Belize

The Premier League of Belize kicked off its Closing Season 2024-25 as Port Layola FC rose to the top of the standings in the opening weekend with a 6-2 victory over Belmopan FC.

San Pedro Pirates earned a 4-1 over Wagiya SC to start in second place. Verdes FC also began the season with three points after a 4-1 victory against Progresso FC.

Up next in Week 2, Verdes meets San Pedro Pirates, Progresso faces Belmopan, and Wagiya hosts Port Layola.

Guatemala

Pedro Báez struck a hat-trick as Xelajú earned a 5-1 home victory against Antigua GFC to conclude the second matchweek of the Clausura 2025 in Liga Guate on Thursday night.

Earlier in the week, Guastatoya and Communicaciones FC tied nil-nil, CSD Municipal won 2-1 against Achuapa, Marquense won 3-2 at Mixco, and Xinabajul fell 2-1 at home to Cobán Imperial. Marquense’s victory placed them first in the Clausura table with six points and moved them out of the relegation spot in the accumulated standings.

As a result, Xelajú earned its first three points of the new season and improved to 33 points overall for first place in the accumulated standings, of which Guastatoya ranks last with 15 points in the relegation race.

El Salvador

The first week of the Clausura 2025 season in El Salvador saw Alianza FC jump to first place with a 4-1 victory at Municipal Limeño.

CD Fuerte San Francisco also won on the road, 2-1, against 11 Deportivo FC. CD FAS won 1-nil at CD Dragón, CD Cacahuatique and CD Águila drew nil-nil, and LA Firpo won 2-1 at CD Platense.

The second matchweek kicks off on Saturday with Alianza’s home opener against CD Cacahuatique followed by AD Isidro Metapán's start to its season against 11 Deportivo. Three matches will take place on Sunday, starting with LA Firpo against CD Dragón.

Honduras

The first week of the Clausura 2024-2025 season in Honduras also got underway this past weekend, with FC Motagua starting in first place after a 3-nil win against Real Sociedad Municipal. Agustín Auzmendi scored in the 4’ and 50’ minutes to take the Player of the Week honors.

CD Victoria and Olancho FC opened the season with a nil-nil draw, Lobos UPNFM fell 1-nil at home to CD Olimpia, Real España and Genesis Comayagua drew 1-1, and Juticalpa FC drew nil-nil with CD Marathon.

CD Olimpia leads in the overall standings with 41 points, while FC Motagua follows second with 37 points. Real Sociedad Municipal is currently the last place side in both the Clausura and overall table.

Nicaragua

Cacique Diriangén FC leads in first place with six points, and the overall standings with 46 points, after two weeks into the Liga Primera Clausura 2025 season in Nicaragua. The latest victory for Diriangén came 2-nil at UNAN-Managua.

Real Estelí FC won 2-nil against CD Walter Ferretti to collect its first three points of the new campaign while keeping pace in the overall standings with 39 points for second place. Managua FC won 2-nil at Club Sport Sébaco collect its first victory.

Miguel Tercero of Rancho Santana FC took the Player of the Week honors with a hat-trick in the 4-nil victory against Municipal FC Art Jalapa.

Costa Rica

AD Municipal Pérez Zeledón sits atop the Clausura 2025 standings in Costa Rica after four weeks of play. Pérez Zeledón’s latest victory came in a 1-nil win at AD Guanacasteca thanks to a match-winning goal from Abner Hudson.

AD Municipal Liberia earned a 4-nil victory against AD Municipal Santa Ana in a match where Barlon Sequeira stood out with a brace. CS Cartaginés earned three points after a thrilling 2-1 win against AD San Carlos, to rise into second place.

Puntarenas FC was inactive in matchweek four but remained in third place in the Clausura table followed by LD Alajuelense, who has two games in hand, in fourth place.

The reigning Concacaf Central American Cup champions lead in the accumulated table with 52 points, followed by Deportivo Saprissa with 45 points.

Panama

The Apertura 2025 season has kicked off in Panama, with Sporting San Miguelito leading the Eastern Conference with three points following a 1-nil win at Plaza Amador. Árabe Unido and Alianza FC tied 1-1, and Tauro FC tied 2-2 with Potros del Este to wrap up action in the East.

Club Atlético Independiente sits atop the Western Conference with three points after a 2-1 win against UMECIT FC. Veraguas United FC earned three points in a 2-1 victory against Herrera FC. CD Universitario and San Francisco FC played to a 1-1 draw.

The second week kicks off on Saturday and features the 38th edition of the Derbi del Oeste when Club Atlético Independiente hosts San Francisco FC.
