Manchester United are on the verge of signing Lecce defender Patrick Dorgu.

Lecce wanted £33.6 million to sanction his exit but have agreed to do a deal for £25.2m plus £4.2m in add-ons.

Dorgu has landed in Manchester and is now scheduled for a medical ahead of his imminent transfer.

According to Samuel Luckhurst, the 20-year-old could make his United debut against Leicester City next week.

He wrote on X: “Patrick Dorgu already at Carrington and undergoing medical.

“All being well, he should be available to make his debut vs Leicester in the FA Cup on Friday.”

Journalist Henry Winter described Dorgu as a ‘statement signing’ by manager Ruben Amorim.

The Portuguese head coach wants his team to play in a 3-4-2-1 formation.

Having dynamic wing-backs is crucial for a team to thrive in this formation.

With Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia struggling with injuries, Diogo Dalot has been entrusted to step up and fill the void.

Dorgu could slot in that position, freeing up Dalot to return to his favored right flank.

As a left-footed player, Dorgu would add balance and help United play out from the back with greater fluidity.

Known for his tireless running and attacking contributions, he brings energy and creativity to the team.

However, he can be vulnerable defensively, particularly when faced with tricky wingers in 1v1 situations.

There is a significant gap between Serie A and the Premier League, meaning Dorgu will likely need time to acclimatise to his new surroundings.

United fans must exercise patience as he adapts to the intense pace and demands of English football.

They cannot afford to show the same displeasure they directed at Joshua Zirkzee during the clash against Newcastle United.
