Ibrahima Konaté (24) arrived at Clairefontaine on Monday ahead of France’s friendlies against Chile and Germany, however, the Liverpool defender’s participation is far from guaranteed. In a hypothetical situation where Konaté returns to his club, Axel Disasi (26) and Jean-Clair Todibo (24) would be the favourites to replace him.
Didier Deschamps selected the defender, despite the fact that Konaté was absent from the teamsheet as Liverpool lost 4-3 to Manchester United in the FA Cup on Sunday. The Frenchman is still suffering from a thigh injury, which has seen him miss the Merseyside club’s last three competitive fixtures.
Konaté is, however, at Clairefontaine today, where he has joined up with his France teammates. But there is no guarantee that he will remain there. Like fellow Bleu Antoine Griezmann, Konaté will undergo a medical assessment before a decision on his participation is taken.
Should Konaté have to leave the France camp, Chelsea’s Disasi and OGC Nice’s Todibo are the favourites to take his place. The former is more likely to join up with Les Bleus than the latter, according to L’Équipe, however, Deschamps told the press on Monday that he expects the Liverpool defender to remain in the squad.
Lucas Hernandez (28), who was forced off for Paris Saint-Germain against Montpellier HSC on Sunday night, is also uncertain and like his compatriots, will undergo medical tests on Monday.
