VI are reporting that former Netherlands international Jeroen Zoet is undergoing a medical at AZ Alkmaar. The 33-year-old also had interest from newly promoted FC Groningen but has opted to join AZ instead. It is expected that he will take up the role of back-up to first choice goalkeeper Rome-Jayden Owusu-Oduro.

Zoet was available on a free after his contract with Spezia expired this summer. The goalkeeper, who has been capped a number of times by Oranje, joined Spezia from PSV in 2020. He went on to make 49 appearances for the club in Serie A and Serie B, keeping 11 clean sheets. Prior to that he had spent time with FC Utrecht and RKC Waalwijk on loan from PSV. During his time with the Eindhoven club, where he had come through from the academy, he made 250 appearances and kept 102 clean sheets. He won three Eredivisie titles and two super cups with PSV.
