According to De Telegraaf, AZ Alkmaar winger Jesper Karlsson arrived has arrived in Italy ahead of a move to Bologna. The 25-year-old Sweden international is undergoing medical tests after the Serie A side agreed an €11m fee with AZ. Karlsson is set to sign a five-year contract with Bologna.
AZ Alkmaar signed Jesper Karlsson from Elfsborg IF in the summer of 2020 for around €2.5m. The 11-time Sweden international turned out to be an exceptional acquisition for the side that finished fourth in the Eredivisie last season. In three seasons Karlsson scored 46 goals and provided 33 assists in 123 appearances. Now, he’s set to play Serie A football for Bologna.
Earlier this summer, AZ sold defender Sam Beukema to Bologna for around €9m. Next to leave the club was Milos Kerkez, who joined Bournemouth for €18m. Tijjani Reijnders then moved to AC Milan for nearly €20m. It’s certainly been a successful summer so far for AZ, who have brought in five new players, all under the age of 23. With Karlsson departing, there will certainly be space and money for an exciting new acquisition.
