Earlier today, FC Barcelona confirmed that Dani Olmo had suffered an injury to his right soleus muscle, ruling him out of Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League encounter against SL Benfica.

The statement issued by the club, however, did not specify any recovery timeline and potential return date for the Spanish international.

However, now, Javi Miguel of AS has come forward with an update on the condition of Olmo and how long he is expected to be out.

As per the journalist, Olmo is expected to be out for a period of ten days due to his latest muscle injury.

Barcelona had already confirmed that the 26-year-old would be out for the trip to Portugal to face Benfica.

Now, according to the report, the attacking midfielder will also be unavailable to face Valencia in La Liga next weekend.

Olmo is a player who has a history of muscle problems and as such, Barça intend to take all possible precautions with him and not risk exacerbating the condition.

As such, the idea is for the former RB Leipzig man to make his comeback in the final league phase game of the UCL against Atalanta on January 29.

No shortage of replacements

Despite the injury setback to Olmo, Barcelona have plenty of options to ensure that his absence is not felt.

Gavi has become the preferred starter in the No. 10 position in recent games while Hansi Flick can also count on Fermin Lopez, Pablo Torre, and Frenkie de Jong.

Olmo’s injury could also open the doors for Ansu Fati to get a look-in into the squad after being left out for four matches in a row.
