Robert Lewandowski has started the 2024-25 season under Hansi Flick in a blazing fashion, and the FC Barcelona veteran is once again proving his credentials as one of the best strikers in Europe even at 36 years of age.
However, owing mainly to this advanced age, Barcelona are aware that he is bound to slow down sooner or later, and they will have to look for another long-term striker for their team.
For this purpose, they have been linked with several interesting names, including the Swede Viktor Gyokeres and the Lille star Jonathan David.
The latter is a more realistic option for the Blaugranes, as his contract with the French side ends at the end of this season, and he will be able to join them without any transfer fee next summer.

Still, as SPORT has noted, his arrival will not entirely be free, and Barcelona already know the costs that his acquisition will entail.
The Spanish publication notes that David’s arrival at the Catalan club will cost around €80 million, including the player’s salary for the next 4 years, a signing bonus, and the commissions that his signing will entail.
This figure is not really high keeping in view the current market, but such an operation will still be difficult for Barcelona keeping in view their difficult economic situation. Furthermore, there is still no consensus at the Catalan club about a potential pursuit, as they doubt his abilities to thrive in their team.
David can score a lot of goals, but he plays the best when he is afforded a lot of space, and Barcelona believe he lacks the skills to be a top player because his performance levels drop when facing more compact teams.
Still, the Blaugranes value the fact that he has declared his love for their club, and his age and contractual situation also make him a good option for them. But Barcelona are prioritising the signing of a left winger next summer and it remains to be seen whether they will make an approach for him.
