Barcelona believe now is the ‘right time’ to step up pursuit of 27-year-old Brazilian midfielder | OneFootball

FC Barcelona have one of the best young and talented squads in the world and look primed to dominate football for many years to come. Under Hansi Flick, the team has developed massively and is playing a great brand of football.

The Catalan club is in contention for a treble this season, leading La Liga and finding itself in a strong position in both the Copa del Rey and the Champions League. Last night, despite being down to ten men, Barcelona managed to grind out a 1-0 win away at Benfica.

Despite this, there are areas in the squad that need reinforcements and Barcelona could look at the summer transfer window for potential opportunities. As per Caught Offside, the Catalan club is eyeing a move for Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes.

The Brazilian defensive midfielder has been one of the very best in the world in his position and his contract with the Magpies ends in 2026. Barcelona are looking to take advantage of this situation and bring him to Spain, believing that now is the ‘right time’ to pursue the signing of Guimarães.

Alexander Isak is Newcastle United’s marquee player and the Tyneside club will be looking to do everything in their power to retain the Swedish striker’s services come the summer, with interest expected to be widespread.

This might mean making some sacrifices, and Guimaraes becomes a potentially sellable asset. The 27-year-old will also not be short of offers but could be available on a bargain with just one year left on his existing contract.

Although Marc Casado has done really well so far this season and Frenkie de Jong has regained his form, signing someone like Guimaraes could be huge for Barcelona. However, it could lead to an overload of options in midfield and the Catalan club will have to make tough decisions.

It remains to be seen if Barcelona make a move for Guimaraes. Arsenal and Man City have also been interested in him in the past and the dynamics could get complicated. Only time will tell how it plays out going forward.
