Barcelona confident of returning to 1:1 rule in the summer thanks to unexpected UCL inflow | OneFootball

Barcelona are set to take on Borussia Dortmund at the Signal Iduna Park later today, in what will be the second leg of the two-legged quarterfinals.

Barça are coming on the back of a 4-0 win in the first leg, meaning the Catalans should be through to the semifinals so long as they don’t concede four goals in Dortmund.

A potential place in the Champions League semifinal could be significant for Barcelona, not just in terms of prestige but also for their finances.

Barça confident of returning to 1:1 rule

As reported by Catalunya Radio, Barcelona will receive €22 million more than what the club had budgeted, simply by qualifying for the UCL semifinals.

That unexpected inflow could prove crucial in the club’s bid to return to La Liga’s 1:1 rule this summer.

It is a rule which, if applied, would allow Barça to spend freely based on their own income, instead of operating under tight restrictions imposed by the league in recent years due to their financial struggles.

The confidence at the club is growing, not only because of the Champions League windfall, but also due to their upcoming pre-season tour.

Lucrative summer tour in Asia

Catalunya Radio adds that Barcelona are planning a summer tour in Asia, and early projections suggest it could bring in anywhere between €15-25 million.

Combined with the unexpected Champions League earnings, this off-season could give the club some much-needed breathing space on the financial front.

As things stand, the club remains optimistic that these earnings will be enough to balance the books and return to the 1:1 rule, which could go a long way in helping the club restore some stability after a long period of economic uncertainty.
