Barcelona consider filing a motion that could lead to La Liga president’s suspension | OneFootball

Last night, Barcelona put out a strong statement against La Liga and its president, Javier Tebas for illegally revealing confidential documents regarding the club’s financials.

Moreover, the club announced their decision to resign from the La Liga Delegates Commission. And now, the club could consider filing a motion which could lead to the suspension of Tebas.

Can Barcelona put Tebas in trouble?

According to Miguel Angel Galan, president of the National Center for Coach Training (CENAFE) and an expert in sports law, Barcelona believe Tebas has broken an act, which is considered quite serious in Spanish sports law.

On April 2, LaLiga published a press release, which included financial details related to a VIP box deal involving Barça.

The Catalan club claims this information was released without their consent, directly violating Article 5 of LaLiga’s own Budget Preparation Regulations. That article explicitly states that any data provided by clubs is to be treated as confidential.

In addition, Galan cites Article 76.2.b of the Spanish Sports Law, which suggests that any failure by league presidents or board members to comply with regulatory or statutory provisions classifies as a “very serious offence.”

What it means for Tebas

If found guilty of these charges, Tebas could face serious ramifications from the Spanish legal institutions, which may potentially harm his career.

Indeed, Galan notes that this is not the first incident involving Tebas; the Administrative Sports Tribunal (TAD) previously sanctioned the LaLiga President with a public reprimand following a complaint filed by Real Madrid.

A second infraction, Galan warns, could lead to suspension.

In the meantime, Barça, in their note, have asked La Liga to take down the April 2 notification and refrain from further commenting on the issue.
