Barcelona are looking to the striker market ahead of the 2025 summer transfer window, as they aim to secure the services of Robert Lewandowski’s successor. In recent months, the name of Viktor Gyokeres has featured prominently amongst the speculation, with the Swedish striker having already amassed 33 goals for club and country this season.
Gyokeres is on Barcelona’s shortlist, and they could have an advantage over the rest in their bid to sign him. Not only are club officials willing to leave him at Sporting CP for an additional season, but Sport say that they want to lower the asking price by including the remaining 50% of Francisco Trincao’s right as part of the deal.
Barcelona can re-sign Trincao for €20m, or they can wait for him to be sold in order to receive half of the transfer fee. However, their idea is to pre-empt this by giving these rights to Sporting in favour of a reduction in Gyokeres’ asking price compared to the rest of the club interested in the 26-year-old. It’s a bold strategy, but it could be ingenious.
