Fransisco Trincao is one of the many players Barcelona signed and sold prematurely to aid their financial situation.

It would be unfair to deem his time at the club a failure given the few minutes he had, but his name could well bring good news to the club offices years after his departure.

After leaving Barcelona, the Portuguese star joined Wolverhampton Wanderers on loan before making himself a regular at Sporting CP.

His level with the Portuguese club coupled with his impact on the national team leave him as one of the most sought-after wingers in world football and he looks set to move to the Premier League next summer.

The economic implication

As relayed by SPORT in a recent update, Barcelona own 50% of Trincao’s rights and are thus entitled to half of any transfer sum Sporting receive.

It is thus significant that Manchester United are seriously interested in his signing and are willing to throw the kitchen sink to acquire his services.

Trincao’s current release clause with Sporting stands at £50 million but the outlet furthers that the Red Devils are willing to cough up £60 million to sign him this summer.

The Portuguese club reportedly wish to recover at least £35 million from the former Barcelona star’s departure and United will thus have to pay out £70 million to offer Sporting the fee they desire. Needless to say, they are not too far off from the asking price.

Barcelona are thus alert to news of Trincao’s transfer and they may merit as much as £35 million from his move to England this summer. After all, the player is pushing for a big money move and is unlikely to renew with the Portuguese giants.

Interest from Arsenal and Newcastle United in addition to Ruben Amorim’s side, needless to say, only gives him all the more reason to push for a departure.
