After a string of poor results at the end of 2024, FC Barcelona returned to winning ways in 2025 as they emerged victorious from their game against UD Barbastro in their Copa del Rey opener.
The Blaugranes scored four goals past their opponents in this game, the first of which was scored by Eric Garcia, before Robert Lewandowski added another two, and Pablo Torre also got on the scoresheet.
Garcia’s goal came in the 21st minute of the game, as he headed off a Ronald Araujo pass to give his side the lead.
Thus, the Spanish defender took the honor of scoring the first goal for Barcelona in 2025, and thus took over from Ferran Torres, Ronald Araujo, Luuk de Jong, Frenkie de Jong, Luis Suarez, and Lionel Messi, who have been the first scorers for the Blaugranes for the previous six years.
In addition to this honor, Mundo Deportivo notes that another factor that makes this goal special is the way in which it was scored. The defender once again scored the goal with a header, and thus built on his streak as he has scored all last six of his goals with his head.
Last season, playing on loan at Girona, the defender scored five goals. All of these goals came in La Liga and all of them were scored with a header. He scored these goals against the likes of Granada, Cadiz, Alaves, Athletic Club, and Villarreal.
These goals helped his side secure three wins and one draw, and the only time when his goal failed to get any points for his side was the one at San Mames against Athletic Club.
Before last night, the only goal he had scored with Barcelona came back in the 2022-23 season, against Sevilla at the Sanchez Pizjuan. However, that goal was different as it was scored from his right foot, and not with his head.
