Barcelona look set to cut ties with Ilkay Gundogan just over a year after the 33-year-old arrived, and just months after he finished the season as their leading assist provider. The German’s high salary is thought to be the motive behind the Catalan side telling the former Manchester City captain to look for  new club.

Matteo Moretto has informed Fabrizio Romano’s Daily Briefing that Pep Guardiola’s relationship with the German could be crucial when he makes a decision on what to do next. He also explained that it was a distinct possibility that Gundogan could leave on a free transfer, as the Blaugrana simply look to save on his salary.
