There are many players at FC Barcelona right now who are considered key components of the team. No one player is above another, despite the fact that it is clear to see just how much certain stars can influence proceedings. However, for any system at Barcelona to work, each player needs to do their own job correctly and efficiently.
Unfortunately for Hansi Flick and his coaching staff, their tactical assessments and inputs are being wasted due to the team’s lack of output. A good example of this was the last game against Atletico Madrid, where Barcelona should have won comfortably had it not been for their own inability to finish their chances.
However, perhaps the one player who is guilty of missing most of the best chances in recent games is none other than Robert Lewandowski. The Polish striker, who showcased arguably his best form at Barcelona since joining at the start of this season, has now hit a slump where he seems to be stuck.
Despite this poor run of form in recent games where he is unable to finish off even the most clear chances, there is still faith in his ability. As highlighted by SPORT, Hansi Flick himself believes this is just a temporary slump and that the player will end up regaining his best version again this season.
While some could argue that Lamine Yamal’s absence is possibly impacting his play as well, but the reality is that Lewandowski is struggling to score goals in general. With only one goal scored in the last five games, he has definitely ended up costing Flick’s team some points that they should have won.
Most of the team’s general play ends up coming towards Lewandowski with the expectation that he will finish his chances, but that has simply not been the case in recent games. Now, as a direct consequence of that, the Pole has ended up reducing the overall potency of Barcelona in front of goal.
This lack of goals has been quite costly for Barça, and the team needs to turn things around fast. La Liga is already looking like a dire case now in terms of competing for the title, but the Catalan giants expect a response from their ace striker in the hopes that he finds his best version again.
With no proper replacements or direct alternatives, the club also believes that some competition could help. As for his own contract, unless something drastic happens, it is expected that Lewandowski will remain at Barcelona for next season as well.
