Owing to their precarious financial conditions, there are not any new players expected to arrive at FC Barcelona in this winter transfer window. In fact, the Catalans are still trying to solve the problem of the registrations of Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor, which are taking a lion’s share of the efforts and time of the Blaugrana Sporting Department.

However, one individual who was still expected to arrive at Barcelona in January was their former player Thiago Alcantara. The Spaniard retired at the end of the last season, and at the start of this season, worked alongside Hansi Flick to help the German manager’s adaptation at the Catalan club.

He was forced to leave for England just a few weeks into the season due to tax-related issues. These problems were expected to persist until the end of the year, but the 33-year-old Spaniard is now ready to return to the Catalan club.

In fact, he is already in the city of Barcelona, enjoying time with his family, and also attended the recent match between his former side and Atletico Madrid at the Montjuic.

However, according to Fichajes, his expected appointment as the technical assistant to Hansi Flick is not yet ready to be finalized, mainly because of the Catalan club’s fragile financial situation, even though he was going to join the club on symbolic wages.

This problem persists despite the Blaugranes recently returning to the 1:1 rule in La Liga and is expected to be solved only after the team concludes its Spanish Super Cup campaign.

Thus, FC Barcelona fans and Flick will have to wait for a while to see Thiago back at the Catalan club, but hopefully, he will be able to get this appointment soon and help the team in this crucial second half of the season.
